The project consists of the manufacture of a custom furniture system for the entrance area of a private house in Bergamo. This is an entirely custom-made sculpture, with the console, the white lacquered open compartment and drawers, and the clad timber slatted coat rack unit with white lacquer standing in harmony, while the wall-mounted oval mirror with LED-backlighting occupies the centre.
For all of the elements in the composition, the decision was made to use white lacquer to establish formal continuity between the console, coat rack and mirror frame, and for them to be a coordinated whole and not juxtaposed objects. The mirror is a custom-made, backlit entry-way mirror, which serves as a warm, inviting entrance right away. The mirror is a large oval shape with a distinct vertical dimension and a LED backlight ring diffused on the wall that provides warm light, enhancing the brightness of the entrance and adding depth to the space.
Produced horizontally, the suspended console has a center open shelf and below two drawers with clean fronts and no visible handles. The design is conceived as a functional entrance hall which has formal dignity, with the slatted coat rack placed on one side completing the ensemble in material and chromatic continuity.
The project was realized on a custom-made basis, white lacquer panel fabrication in the workshop (routing, edge finishing and surface treatment), installation in the workplace (wall mounting of a suspended console, coat rack unit and mirror with an integrated LED system). All stages are run in-house for quality control throughout the whole process. GP Design works on a made to order basis for homes where a precise entryway system is needed and a high level of finishes is required.
